Rescue efforts are underway, with government and Red Cross personnel searching the site and saving 14 individuals so far. However, the death toll has risen to eight, including six adults and two children.

The Kiteezi landfill, which has served as Kampala's primary garbage dump for decades, has long been a source of concern for residents. They have complained about hazardous waste polluting the environment and posing a danger to people.

Recent heavy rains in parts of Uganda have caused flooding and landslides, but this incident is the first to result in fatalities. Footage shows the devastating impact of the landslide, with people walking on a section of the landfill that had crushed parts of a house. Excavators are working to dig up the garbage and search for survivors.

The rescue operation is ongoing, and authorities will provide further updates as the situation develops.
