Tanzania Completes Construction of East Africa’s Longest Bridge, The Magufuli Bridge
In a landmark achievement for Tanzania, the nation has completed the construction of the Magufuli Bridge, the longest bridge in East Africa. Stretching 3.2 kilometers across the Rufiji River, the bridge cost $300 million and stands as a symbol of Tanzania’s infrastructural development. Named in honor of the late President John Magufuli, whose administration was known for pushing ambitious infrastructure projects, the bridge was constructed by a Chinese firm and financed entirely by the Tanzanian government.

This monumental project is expected to drastically reduce travel time across the Rufiji River, with authorities stating that what once took two hours will now be covered in just four minutes. The bridge is poised to not only enhance local connectivity but also boost trade with neighboring countries like Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi. By improving access to key regional trade routes, Tanzania hopes to strengthen its economic ties with these East African nations.

As one of the 10 longest bridges in Africa, the Magufuli Bridge reflects Tanzania's commitment to modernizing its transport infrastructure and fostering economic growth. The bridge is set to be inaugurated by President Samia Suluhu Hassan before the end of the year, marking a historic moment for the country and the region at large.
