On November 30, 2024, the Grand Arena was abuzz with the glitz and glamour of Rhythms on the Runway – Kente Edition. Fashion moguls, celebrities, and industry leaders gathered to celebrate the growth of Ghana’s fashion scene. Notable attendees included Efya, Nana Ama McBrown, Delay, Bola Ray, Nadia Buari, and Zynnel Zuh, alongside celebrity models like James Gardener, Selly Galley, and Nikki Samonas.
The night also saw prestigious awards handed to Dele Momodu, Kwabena Kwabena, and Bibie Brew, honoring their long-standing contributions to Ghana’s entertainment industry.
The runway showcased designs from talented names like BloombyEdzi, Ophelia Crossland, Selina Beb, YAWS, and MASANTEWAA, with MASANTEWAA’s beaded creations standing out as the highlight. Performances by Kwabena Kwabena, Edem, Stonebwoy, and Amandzeba added to the energy of the evening.
Hosted by AJ Sarpong and Jerry Adjorlolo, the event saw 90% of the attendees donning stunning kente pieces, truly honoring the theme of the night. However, while the event delivered on its signature style and star power, many felt it lacked the expected innovation and drama, particularly on the runway. The majority of models were amateur, and the designs, though creative, were rather basic, leaving some longing for a more elevated experience.
Despite the setbacks, the evening served as a reminder of the challenges facing the fashion industry, particularly in securing investment and support. Still, the event remains a vital showcase for Ghanaian fashion talent.
