Nigeria's team defeated Australia 75-62 in their opening game of the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

The Nigerian team, known as the D'Tigress, came out with intense defensive pressure that caught the Australian Opals off guard. Nigeria forced 26 turnovers and held Australia to just 28 points in the first half, building a 41-28 lead at the break.

Ezinne Kalu led the way for Nigeria, scoring 19 points and grabbing 5 rebounds. Promise Amukamara added 14 points, while Amy Okonkwo hit several key 3-pointers down the stretch to help seal the victory.

Australia, who were expected to be a medal contender, struggled mightily with turnovers and poor free throw shooting, going just 8-of-18 from the line. Alanna Smith was a bright spot for the Opals, scoring 15 points, but it wasn't enough to overcome Nigeria's stifling defense.

This result is a major Olympic record for nigeria and the win puts Nigeria in a great position to advance to the knockout round for the first time ever, while Australia will need to regroup quickly before facing Canada on Thursday.
