CAF Sanctions Libya with $10 Million Fine Over Ill-Treatment of Nigerian Players
The sanction is largely due to the reported ill-treatment of Nigeria’s national team during their stay in Libya. Issues highlighted include inadequate travel arrangements and discomfort faced by the Nigerian delegation, contributing to tensions between the two nations. While the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) addressed some allegations, they pointed out that choices made by the Libyan Football Federation (LFF) contributed to the problems.

In addition to the financial penalty, CAF has barred Libya from hosting home matches until 2026, requiring all games to be played in neutral locations. As a result, the rescheduled Nigeria vs. Libya match will now take place in Angola, instead of its initial Libyan venue.

These developments underscore the complexities surrounding the AFCON qualifiers, where logistical and administrative issues have affected the competition's dynamics. The Nigerian Super Eagles will now look forward to a fairer contest on neutral grounds in Angola.
