Lagos recently witnessed the powerful unveiling of The Decolonisation of Africa, a groundbreaking documentary by Accelerate TV that brings African history to life—told by African voices. The screening drew an elite audience of changemakers, creatives, and cultural custodians, all deeply moved by the authenticity and brilliance of the film’s narrative.

With elegance and pride, well-dressed guests walked the carpet, not just to attend a film screening, but to honour a moment of cultural reckoning. From stylish appearances to emotional reflections, the event was a celebration of identity and historical truth. Many expressed excitement at finally seeing Africa’s struggle for independence portrayed with depth, pride, and dignity—by Africans for Africans.

The documentary features powerful contributions from African leaders, including former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo. It captures the continent’s complex path to self-rule, challenging colonial narratives and spotlighting Africa’s intellectual and revolutionary spirit.
The Decolonisation of Africa has already gained global recognition with screenings in France, the UK, and the U.S., but the Lagos experience was deeply personal—rooted in home soil.

This project, inspired by the late Dr. Herbert Wigwe’s vision, is not just history. It’s legacy. And from the images and voices at the Lagos screening, one thing is clear: Africa is reclaiming the pen.
